Hoo boy. Let's hear it for Shonda Schilling, wife of three-time World Series champion and future Hall of Fame pitcher Curt Schilling, who joined her husband last weekend on NPR to promote their new book The Best Kind of Different: Our Family's Journey with Asperger's Syndrome. The Schillings are parents of a 10-year-old son, Grant, who was diagnosed with the disorder when he was 6. Which, as Mrs. Schilling noted last week on the air, places the young man in the company of such high-functioning autistics as Steven Spielberg. Wow! Who knew? Well, nobody, in fact — because it's not true.

Regardless of whether or not Shonda Shilling's characterization of the one of the premiere directors of the last 1/4 century is correct of not, the point she attempting to make is much larger than any slight journalistic faux pas might be.
Additionally, its well known that pharma, psychiatry's & psychology's intrusion into everyday life has incorrectly labeled MILLIONS with obtrusive, obstructive & detrimental placards which AREN'T ACCEPTED by the mainstream.
These detrimental labels and their resultant effects are the point she's making.
The article makes a HUGE deal of the mistaken data and NOTHING of her reason for making the comparison.
Which, if we use the parallel of the labels is EXACTLY what society does to the "placard wearer"- points out their faults while devaluating & invalidating their STRENGTHS.
WTG-VANAIRSDALE way to drop the ball or as Curt might say-"Nice WIFF take a seat"
